Quilt Archaeology REVEALED ~ Summer Blue from Heartspun Quilts ~ Pam Buda

aa
There's something crisp and fresh about a blue and light quilt anytime, but particularly in the summer.  I love it!

This little cutie is the inspiration for Summer Blue.  I believe it to be a cutter piece, probably just a block from a large quilt, but I still think it does well for a small doll quilt.  Can't you just feel those soft crinkles in the cotton?

I used a sweet little light print that has a dot of blue, and a brand new blue from from Lily's Locket for this Quilt Archaeology project.  Your kit ...

Quilt Archaeology ~ Welcome Spring! Revealed from Heartspun Quilts ~ Pam Buda

I don't know about you, but I need a burst of spring colors to lift my wintry mood.  Welcome Spring is my new Quilt Archaeology project!

Welcome Spring is an exact replica of this little antique cutie of a quilt.  Easy, right?  Nine Patches and a checkerboard border.  Well, I made it super easy to piece, and mixed up the colors for a happy spring mix.

I made my quilt with six assorted spring colored prints and Marcus Fabrics special Aged Muslin to give the quilt its lovely aged look.

Your kit will have the exact same fabrics as ...

Quilt Archaeology ~ Holly & Berry REVEALED! from Heartspun Quilts ~ Pam Buda

Holly & Berry is my new Quilt Archaeology project.

This is the antique quilt I 'dug up' that inspired me.  Star blocks are always a favorite, and a LeMoyne Star my most favorite!  I hope you like Holly & Berry as much as I do.

These are the fabrics I used to make my quilt, and they will be the same fabrics in the kit you receive*.  I chose the sparkle light print to add a little twinkle to the quilt.  Do you like it?
The Holly & Berry quilt measures 12 x 12 inches.

As with every Quilt Archaeology event, I offer ...

Pumpkin Spice ~ Part Two from Heartspun Quilts ~ Pam Buda

Welcome to Pumpkin Spice part two.  I trust you have your LeMoyne Star blocks completed.

Next up....the ribbon units for the blocks.  They surround the block and give the block it's great angles.

We're working with connector corners again, and everything we learned from last week's lesson on perfect connector corners is the same on this unit.

Position your black print squares to make the units on the left and the right.  Make (4) of each unit.

*Sew one of each unit side by side; press the seam open.

Make (4) ribbon units.

*Follow the pattern ...

Quilt Archaeology ~ Pumpkin Spice REVEALED! from Heartspun Quilts ~ Pam Buda

Pumpkin Spice is the name of my new Quilt Archaeology sew-along project.  I loved the antique quilt so very much, and adore how this Halloween replica turned out with its two shades of pumpkin orange!

This little antique cutie is my inspiration for Pumpkin Spice.  I love the movement the Mosaic Pinwheel block gives to the quilt, and yet it's a very simple design.  I think the colors and the fabrics speak volumes in this project.  I love it, and I hope you do as well.

These are the fabrics I used to make my quilt, and will be ...

Back From Alaska from Heartspun Quilts ~ Pam Buda

A few weeks ago, hubby and I boarded Royal Caribbean's Quantum of the Seas and set sail for Alaska.

My pals Paula Barnes and Mary Ellen Robison of Red Crinoline Quilts joined me in teaching a super fun group of ladies and gentlemen as we sailed our way to Alaska.

Classes aboard the Quantum of the Seas take place on the 13th deck of the ship, and have the most wonderful floor to ceiling windows,  allowing us to take in all the beautiful sights as we sailed along.
Stitchin' Heaven Quilt Shop hosts our cruises and always does a ...

Remembering Betsy ~ Part Two from Heartspun Quilts ~ Pam Buda

Now that our Remembering Betsy quilt center is sewn, all we have to do is make the Flying Geese and add them as our border.

Gotta love a quick and easy little quilt!  You'll make (44) Flying Geese for each side border, and add your corner posts.  Done and done!  Ready for the summer patriotic months.

Speaking of patriotic quilts.....

Star Spangled Liberty was a block of the month many years ago.  I've had a lot of requests for this pattern over the years and decided to make it available as a digital download!

The quilt has two ...

If you've ever thought about visiting Pigeon Forge & Gatlinburg, TN here's another reason you should!  A Mountain Quiltfest is being held the week of June 6th in Pigeon Forge.  I will be teaching classes there all week, there's a wonderful vendor market and huge quilt show.  It's really a top notch quilt event, not to mention the wonderful location.  After Mountain Quiltfest, I will no longer be traveling to teach workshops with the exception of quilting cruises.  So, please consider attending this event....it really is so fun!  You can find all the info about Mountain ...

Quilt Archaeology ~ Remembering Betsy, REVEALED!! from Heartspun Quilts ~ Pam Buda

Remembering Betsy is the name of my new Quilt Archaeology sew-along project.  I think it's perfect to celebrate summer from Memorial Day through the month of July!

This is the antique that inspired Remembering Betsy.  I adore Churn Dash blocks and Flying Geese, so it was a double winner in my book.  I took creative license with color and I changed the inside sashing a little bit.  I just love how it turned out!  I hope you do, too!

These are the fabrics with which I made my quilt and that will be in your FREE kit*.  You can ...

From the Heart ~ Part Three AND Pre-Order Old Blue Calicos! from Heartspun Quilts ~ Pam Buda

It's easy street from here now what all of our Old Maid's Puzzle blocks are complete.  Time to assemble the quilt.  Sew the center together diagonally, then add the border.  Done!  I am presently hand quilting a valentine project for my daughter.  It's ok that it wasn't complete by the 14th.  She will display it for part of this month, and have it next year and forevermore.

I sincerely hope you have enjoyed making the From the Heart quilt.  We can look forward to more Quilt Archaeology quilts to 'dig up' and replicate later this year ...

From the Heart ~ Part Two from Heartspun Quilts ~ Pam Buda

The week has flown by and we're all one week closer to spring....and that's a very good thing!  I stare at a sea of white as we're still snow covered here in Chicagoland.  Typical for February, but my seasonal radar is longing for the change to spring.  It won't be long now!

By now, you have all  of your Cat's Cradle blocks complete, so our next step is to make the Firefly  units.

Follow along in the pattern directions to piece a Half Square Triangle to a square.

Sew (2) units together to make ...

From the Heart ~ Part One from Heartspun Quilts ~ Pam Buda

Welcome, friends, to another Quilt Archaeology sew-along!  It's February and time to begin sewing our Valentine quilt.  Follow along in your From the Heart pattern.  You can download it here.

Make all of your Half Square Triangles and trim them to the size stated in the pattern.  String piecing them makes quick work of this task.

Next, carefully piece two light print triangles to a Half Square Triangle as shown.

Our next task is to add the large red triangle to our pieced unit.  Hhmmm...keeping those triangle points together as you sew them can be a problem.

Quilt Archaeology ~ From the Heart ~ REVEALED! from Heartspun Quilts ~ Pam Buda

From the Heart is the name of my new Quilt Archaeology sew-along project.  Perfect for a Valentine display or gift for your favorite Valentine!

This is the antique we are replicating.  I thought it was so sweet and the perfect Valentine quilt.  Our replica is not as large as the original quilt mainly because I couldn't afford to give FREE kits for a quilt this large.  I think the smaller size is just a lovely.

These are the fabrics with which I made my quilt and that will be in your FREE kit.  I loved the classic bubble gum ...

Glad Tidings ~ Part Three from Heartspun Quilts ~ Pam Buda

Another week has passed and I hope you found a little time for yourself to sew this past week.  I did! I spent quite a bit of time last Saturday, and snuck in some time here and there during the week to sew.  It just feels so fulfilling to me.

Let's get started on finishing our sweet little quilt!

Arrange your six blocks like the photo above.  Sew the blocks into rows; press.  Sew the rows together; press. Check your pattern for the quilt center measurements as we need to know them for the next step.
